Retention for Veterinarians and Veterinary Specialists

According to Section 23(1) of the Veterinary Act CAP 319, every registered Veterinarian or Veterinary Specialist shall retain his registration through annual renewal

The retention fee is supposed to be paid in a calendar year;

Where a registered Veterinarian or Veterinary Specialist fails to pay a retention before the expiration of the existing certificate of registration, the Council may renew the registration if the application is made within six months after the end of the expiry period;

At the end of that period of six months, a registered Veterinarian or Veterinary Specialist has not renewed his registration, the Council shall suspend the registration for one year, and if after a year the Veterinarian or Veterinary Specialist fails to renew the registration, then the Council shall, subject to Section 27 of the Veterinary Act cancel the registration and remove person's name from the Register.

The amount of retention fees is to be paid according to the Veterinary (Fees and Other Charges) Regulation, 2015.

Retention for Veterinary Paraprofessionals and Paraprofessional Assistants

According to Section 37(1) of the Veterinary Act CAP 319, every enrolled Paraprofessional or enlisted Paraprofessional Assistant shall retain enrolment or enlistment through annual renewal.

The retention fee is supposed to be paid in a calendar year; where the enrolled or enlisted person fails to pay retention before the end of the existing enrolment or enlistment period, the Council may renew that enrolment or enlistment if the application is made within six months after the end of the expiry period.

If at the end of the six months, the enrolled or enlisted person has not renewed his enrolment or enlistment, the Council shall suspend the enrolment or enlistment for one year and if after the period of one year a Paraprofessional or Paraprofessional Assistant fails to renew the enrolment or enlistment then, the Council shall, subject to Section 34 of the Veterinary Act, cancel the enrolment or enlistment and order the removal of the relevant person's name in the Roll or List.

The amount of retention fees is to be paid according to the Veterinary (Fees and Other Charges) Regulation, 2015.

Retention for Artificial Inseminators

According to Regulation 5(1) of the Veterinary (Licensing of Artificial Insemination Technicians) Regulation, 2011; there shall be a retention fee to be paid annually by a licensed artificial insemination technician.

A licensed registered veterinarian, enrolled paraprofessional and enlisted paraprofessional assistant shall be exempted from payment of retention fee according to regulation 5(2)

Retention for Meat Inspectors

According to Regulation 9(1) of the Veterinary (Licensing of Meat Inspectors) Regulation, 2011; there shall be a retention fee to be paid annually by a licensed meat inspector.

A licensed registered veterinarian, enrolled paraprofessional and enlisted paraprofessional assistant shall be exempted from payment of retention fee according to regulation 9(2)

Retention for Veterinary Laboratory Technicians

According to Regulation 5(1) of the Veterinary (Licensing of Veterinary Laboratory Technicians) Regulation 2011, there shall be a retention fee to be paid annually to the Council by the licensed veterinary laboratory technicians

The retention fee is supposed to be paid in a calendar year;

The amount of retention fees is to be paid according to the Veterinary (Fees and Other Charges) Regulation, 2015.

Retention for Veterinary Facilities

According to Regulation 34 of the Veterinary Act (Registration of Veterinarians and Veterinary Practice Facilities) Rules, 2004; the Certificate of registration of the facility issued under these Rules shall be valid as long as the annual retention fee is paid.

The retention fee for veterinary facilities is supposed to be paid in a government financial year.

The amount of retention fees and late renewal are to be paid according to the Veterinary (Fees and Other Charges) Regulation, 2015.
